It is September 1745 and Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite army have arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Pupils will walk in the footsteps of Bonnie Prince Charlie exploring the rooms used by his grandfather, James VII and II to discover the man at the heart of the Jacobite cause and the 1745 Jacobite uprising. They will then experience Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Palace from the perspective of the artist Allan Ramsay, who was invited to the Palace to paint a portrait of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Challenged with the same task, pupils will receive sketch books and pencils and will gather information to inspire and inform their own portraits. They will investigate letters, objects, rooms, symbols and paintings, before returning to the Abbey Strand Centre to make their own masterpiece.
Visit includes access to: The Throne Room, Privy Chamber, Presence Chamber, King’s Bedchamber, The Great Gallery, The Lobby, Lord Darnley’s Ante Chamber, Lord Darnley’s Bedchamber and Abbey Strand Learning Centre.
