In this EYFS focussed storytelling session pupils will discover the role that the Royal Mews plays in the preparations for the grand processions that convey the monarch from Buckingham Palace.

Session Learning Objectives:

  • Pupils will be guided by a storyteller around the Mews to discover the different methods of transport that are used by the Royal Family
  • Pupils will explore the items on display and use them to enrich their vocabulary related to transport and materials
  • Pupils will learn about the grand royal processions through the telling of an interactive story inspired by the Royal Mews

In this session children will:

  • Work with a storyteller who will lead the pupils on a fun, interactive tour of the grand historic carriages and the horses at the Royal Mews
  • Have opportunities during the tour and storytelling session to handle objects linked to the Mews and the important role it plays
  • Participate in an exciting, lively, story where they will use well known nursery rhymes to enhance their understanding of the story

The main aspect that I felt that worked really well was finding the missing parts of the story. Not only were the children engaged when looking around the Mews, but they had a purpose – which they need to stay involved. Also giving them all the opportunity to participate in the story afterwards was great, as all the children felt involved and could talk about what they were holding or doing in the story.
