What's included in your Royal Day Out ticket?

A Royal Day Out ticket offers discount admission to all three venues at Buckingham Palace: the State Rooms, The King's Gallery and the Royal Mews.

 

The King's Gallery

The Queen’s Gallery has now become The King’s Gallery. Your Royal Day Out will start with a visit to The King’s Gallery to see the exhibition Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography. This new exhibition will explore the evolution of royal portrait photography from the 1920s to the present day and reveal the stories behind some of the most celebrated photographs ever taken of the Royal Family.

The Royal Mews

Next you will visit the Royal Mews which is one of the finest working stables in existence and responsible for all road travel arrangements for The King and members of the Royal Family. You will see historic coaches and carriages, including the Gold State Coach and the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, the newest coach at the Mews.

The State Rooms

Your Royal Day Out will finish with a tour through the magnificent State Rooms in Buckingham Palace which are used by The King for ceremonial occasions and official entertaining. Each room is furnished with many of the treasures from the Royal Collection, including paintings by Rembrandt and Rubens; sculpture by Canova; and some of the finest English and French furniture in the world.  

The day ends with a walk through the garden, with splendid views of the Palace and the famous lake.

Eating and Drinking

Drinks, cakes and sandwiches are available in the Garden Café at the end of the State Rooms tour. Situated overlooking the Palace’s lawn and lake, the Café is a great place to relax after your busy day out.

Food and drink are not available at The King's Gallery or the Royal Mews but there are many cafés and restaurants nearby. Eating and drinking are not permitted inside any of the venues.

Itinerary

  • Your Royal Day Out will last approximately 4 and a half hours.

  • You will begin your Royal Day Out at The King's Gallery, followed by the Royal Mews and then the State Rooms, visiting all three venues on the same day.

  • When buying your ticket you will select a time for your entry into The King's Gallery to start the Royal Day Out.

Example timings:

Enter The King's Gallery 12:00
Enter the Royal Mews 13:15
Enter the State Rooms 14:15
Visit ends around 16:30

Your Royal Day Out route

To start your Royal Day Out you should go to the entrance for The King's Gallery. You can also collect your tickets here if necessary.

You will go through airport-style security checks at each venue. In the State Rooms pushchairs will have to be checked in and reclaimed after your visit and some items are not permitted at all. Read more about Buckingham Palace security and luggage.

Toilets and baby-care facilities are available at each of the venues. In the State Rooms these facilities are only available at the end of your visit, once you enter the Garden.
