Question
How do I apply for a summer job?
Answer

We only accept applications submitted using our online application form. CVs emailed to us will not be considered.

Apply for a summer job by clicking 'Apply Now' on the specific vacancy's information page on our recruitment website; this can be reached by clicking the links on our current vacancies page.

Please note that we are unable to accept applications from individuals who do not have the right to work in the UK.

Question
Can I apply for more than one summer vacancy?
Answer

You can only submit an application for one of our summer vacancies, therefore please read the job description and carefully consider which role best suits your aims, skills and experience

We will review your application against our criteria and may consider you for another role if we feel this would be appropriate.

Question
When do I need to be available to work?
Answer

The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are typically open from July until late September or early October and we require full availability from our summer staff during this period. Please note that, for operational reasons, we are unable to accept requests for holidays during this time.

Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse are open all year round. We recruit extra summer staff at these locations each year, and these contract dates vary – please check the advertisements for specific start dates

Question
When will I hear if my application has been successful?
Answer

You will be contacted by email once you have submitted your application. Please note that due to the volume of applications that we receive this may take up to one month after the closing date.

You can log in to the communication centre at any time to check the status of your application.

Question
What do I need to bring to the assessment centre or interview?
Answer

If you are invited to an in-person assessment centre or interview, please ensure that you complete your registration details in advance via the email from our visitor registration system. It is important that you carefully note the identification requirements so as not to be refused entry.

Identification

You will be required to provide two forms of identification; one from Group A and one from Group B.

Group A (photographic ID):

  • Passport
  • UK or EU photo driving licence
  • EU identity card

Group B (proof of address):

  • Bank Statement (issued within the last 3 months) – a stamped print-out provided by your local branch will be accepted
  • Utility bill/council tax statement/pay slip (issued within the last 3 months)
  • Driving licence (paper counterpart)

**Please note that you are required to provide proof of the address you submit on your registration form**

Education certificate

You will still be able to attend an assessment centre if you do not have your educational and/or professional certificates. However, please note that you will be required to show these at a later stage, should you be successful.

Question
What happens at the assessment centre?
Answer

For some summer positions we invite candidates to attend an assessment centre, where you will meet members of the team you could be joining. This assessment centre could be held either in person or virtually using an online platform.

It is an interactive session, and you will be provided with lots of information about the role and what it is like to work for Royal Collection Trust during the summer.

There may be a short task for you to complete on the day, for which you will not need to prepare in advance. You will then have a one-to-one interview, allowing us to discuss your application in more detail, and during which you can ask us questions.

Question
When will I find out if I have been offered a summer position?
Answer

All candidates who attend an assessment centre will be contacted via email to inform them whether or not they have been successful.

Please note that as we see a high number of candidates at our assessment centres, this may take up to one month after your interview.
